Yonkers Deputy Communication Director Akeem Jamal, 22, pleaded not guilty to multiple charges that include driving while intoxicated and reckless driving, for his role in the Sunday, Sept. 15 crash on Central Park Avenue.
Jamal has pleaded not guilty to the charges he faces. He is due back in court on Jan. 14 next year.
Members of the Yonkers Police Department responded to Central Park Avenue near Palmer Road at approximately 4:45 a.m. on Sept. 15, where there was a report of a head-on collision involving two drivers in the southbound lane on Central Park Avenue.
Both drivers were treated for non-life-threatening injuries and transported to an area hospital for treatment.
The investigation found that a Chevrolet Trailblazer being driven by a 53-year-old Wappingers Falls man was struck by Jamal’s BMW. He allegedly drove north in the southbound lanes on Central Park Avenue for more than a mile.
Jamal suffered “extensive” head and bodily injuries, and is still confined to a wheelchair. The other man suffered head and leg injuries. His injuries were considered non-life-threatening.
